The most prominent of these groups are Al Anon, Nar Anon, and Alateen. Alateen caters specifically to the older children and teens who find themselves close to alcoholics. The group functions much like the other groups, but with an added emphasis on breaking generational cycles of addiction. This can prevent the young people who participate from following in the footsteps of the addict they know.
