A Guide to Drug and Alcohol Detox, Rehab and Addiction Resources in Issaquah, WA

Issaquah, Washington is located in King County. It’s a growing city. In 2010, the population of Issaquah was just over 30,000. By 2015, the population was estimated at just over 36,000. It has been ranked the fastest growing suburb in the State of Washington, and the 89th fastest growing suburb in the United States.

Major companies, like Boeing and Microsoft, have their headquarters here. The employment opportunities offered by these companies will surely ensure that Issaquah continues to grow in the future.

Issaquah is another name for a Native American tribe that lived in the area.

If you live in this beautiful, but small city in Washington, you might have noticed the growing drug epidemic in the area. Marijuana, alcohol and cocaine are some of the most abused drugs in King County and Issaquah. Many residents in this area need addiction treatment or some form of help.

If you’re dealing with an addiction, it can heavily impact your quality of living and how fulfilled you feel. Although you live in one of the most beautiful cities in Washington, you’re probably not getting as much out of it as you would like to if you’re dealing with a substance use disorder (SUD). After all, your whole life will seem to revolve around your addiction. You no longer marvel at the scenery or enjoy taking walks in your neighborhood.

If you’re battling an addiction, you need help.
Fortunately, there are many great addiction resources available to you in Issaquah. These resources can help you overcome substance abuse. Many people don’t realize this, but there are many detox centers, rehab facilities, treatment services, support groups, like AA meetings and NA meetings, in the area.

Low-Cost or Free Resources for Addiction Help in Issaquah, Washington

Don’t let life pass you by. Your first priority should be to get help for your addiction.

The unfortunate truth is that not many addicts will seek treatment. Some people are simply in denial of their situation. However, there’s a vast majority that avoids seeking professional help because they don’t believe that they can afford it.

Just a few years ago, this was true. Many health insurance companies did not offer coverage or benefits for addiction treatment services. However, this is no longer the case. All health insurance companies are now required to provide coverage for these services.

In addition, there are a number of free or low cost services that you can utilize right away to get the help you need.

Low-income residents of King County can take advantage of the county's free resources. The King County Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Prevention and Treatment delivery system provides outpatient care and other SUD services. This publicly funded program provides prevention and treatment services.

Some of these services are provided directly by the county. Other services are provided through contracts with treatment agencies in the county. Some of these services are gender-specific or specific to certain ethnicities. These services are more personal and intimate. They can yield better results.

This county program offers a full continuum of care. It deals with addiction in all of its stages. The program helps anyone struggling with addiction. It does not matter what substances a person may be addicted to. The main services provided by this program include:

  • Sobering services
  • Drug detoxification
  • Youth and adult outpatient treatment
  • SUD prevention services
  • Drug testing services
  • Opioid Replacement Therapy (ORT)

The county has also partnered with The State of Washington Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) to provide residential treatment. Admission to any of these programs is based on availability and eligibility.
With the high cost of rehab, these programs and services have made addiction treatment more accessible and affordable to low-income residents. It's possible for anyone to get the help they need.

Alcohol and Drug Detox in Issaquah, Washington

Drug and alcohol detox is one of the most important steps of any substance abuse treatment plan. It is an essential part of the recovery process, regardless of what type of addiction you have. It works by eliminating toxins from the body that have been left behind by substance abuse. These toxins only serve to make withdrawal much harder for the substance abuser.

While many rehab facilities offer detox programs to their patients, detox centers offer only detox services. They do not stray toward other components of an addiction treatment plan, like counseling. Instead, the staff there only provide either inpatient or outpatient detox services.

Those with a more serious addiction and need to live at the facility will opt for inpatient care. On the other hand, those with a more mild addiction can usually get away with outpatient detox services. For example, Vivitrol, which is an injection administered monthly for treating opioid addiction, is usually associated with outpatient care.

Unfortunately, neither types of detox centers are found in Issaquah, Washington at the moment. If you’re interested in detox services, you’ll need to look for them in nearby cities. Fortunately, there are many available.

Medical vs. Holistic Detox Services

There are a number of different methods that can be used for drug and alcohol detox. The two most common options to choose from include medical detox, otherwise known as drug detox, and holistic detox. These two detox options are quite different.

Medical Detox

Medical detox involves taking medications to help with withdrawal symptoms. This detox option may be absolutely necessary if patients are expected to experience life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. The medications used in this type of treatment will normalize brain chemistry levels. This will help prevent symptoms, like delirium tremens.

Holistic detox incorporates diet changes and exercise. It does not rely on any type of medication at all. It only uses natural approaches to help patients wean off all types of substances.

Holistic Detox

Neither holistic nor medical detox is enough to beat addiction by itself. To beat addiction, you’ll need to treat the psychological withdrawal symptoms, as well as the physical ones. Detox can only treat physical signs of withdrawal. A comprehensive treatment plan should include behavioral therapy and counseling, as well as other treatment modalities.

Alcohol and Drug Rehab in Issaquah, WA

If you have an addiction, consider whether going to rehab may help in your recovery. Some addictions are more dangerous or difficult to treat than others. For example, an alcohol addiction can be quite dangerous. Attempting to quit on your own can lead to a multitude of negative consequences. Not only may you experience medical complications such as seizures and a stroke, but you could also relapse without the right support. Choosing to go to rehab gives you a better chance at recovery.

Alcohol and Drug Rehab in Issaquah, WA

The staff and medical professionals will make sure that you detox safely. They’ll also make sure that you get the support and help you need while you quit.

The same can be said for drug addiction. Far too many people try to quit using drugs on their own. They’re often surprised to find that their addictions are much stronger than they thought they were. Quitting drugs require detox, therapy, group therapy and education on the addiction. Drug rehabs will help you acquire the tools and skills that you need. You’ll be less likely to relapse. Relapsing back into drug use is dangerous because you have a higher risk for overdose.

There are no inpatient drug and alcohol rehab centers in Issaquah. However, if you’re interested in outpatient care, there is one rehab center that can offer you the services that you may be looking for.

What’s the Difference Between Inpatient and Outpatient Care?

If you're interested in the possibility of going to rehab, you'll have the option of choosing between inpatient and outpatient care. Understanding the differences between the various levels of care is critical in your decision-making process. You must first consider the severity of your addiction, as well as the amount of commitment you're willing to make.

Inpatient Treatment Programs

There are three main levels of care when it comes to addiction treatment. Most rehab centers will focus on offering only one level of care. However, some rehab centers do offer more than one service. The three levels of care include:

  • Inpatient treatment programs. This option is also known as residential treatment. Patients will move directly into the rehab facility for the entire duration of their treatment. This is usually anywhere from 28 to 90 days. Longer treatment times are for those who have more difficulties getting sober. Patients who choose this option will receive around-the-clock care and supervision.
  • Outpatient treatment programs. On the other end of the spectrum, we have outpatient treatment programs. These programs offer optimal flexibility. Patients can pick and choose when they get treatment. They can commit to as many or as few hours as they'd like. Those who opt for an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) will need to go to at least 9 hours of therapy each week.
  • Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs). This option offers the best of both worlds. Patients go to the rehab center every day for treatment. They'll get anywhere from 4 to 8 hours of treatment before heading home. This program allows patients to stay at home and still have some control over their day.
Outpatient Treatment Programs

If you're not sure which level of care is most suitable for your situation, get an addiction assessment from our professionals. We can help you figure out what you need.

There are no residential treatment centers in Issaquah, which means that you'll have to go to another city or out of state to find one. Since this is the case, you should highly consider checking out Northpoint Recovery.

There are many advantages of choosing an inpatient treatment center over an outpatient one. In fact, inpatient care is usually one of the first types of treatment recommended by addiction experts. This is because these programs:

  • Offer 24/7 support. When you choose an inpatient program, you can rest assured that you'll get the help that you need within a moment's notice. You can reach out to the nursing staff and other professionals at the treatment facility at any time.
  • Provide more varieties when it comes to therapies and treatment. Inpatient services can offer you everything that you need. You can choose from a wide range of therapy services, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), art therapy, equine therapy, music therapy and more.
  • Allow you to focus solely on your recovery. When living at the facility, you don't have to worry about a thing. Your meals are cooked by in-house chefs and housekeeping will do your laundry. Every day that you spend at the drug or alcohol rehab will already be pre-planned.
  • Give you an opportunity to expand your social network. Meet other people in similar situations. You'll learn more about what led them to addiction, and learn how to offer and get support. Many patients will actually keep in touch with each other or participate in an alumni program after completing their treatment.
  • Offer individualized treatment plans. There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach when it comes to addiction treatment.

Many patients start off with inpatient care and transition into outpatient care later on. Northpoint Recovery offers many different types of addiction treatment plans.

Recovery Meetings in Issaquah, WA for Additional Support

Experts have known for years that group therapy is one of the most important aspects of addiction recovery. It is helpful to talk with a group of like-minded people who understand where you’re coming from, and the challenges you’re currently facing. Many studies have highlighted the importance of having peer support during recovery.

12 Step Meetings in Issaquah, WA for Additional Support

12 step programs, like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, are particularly popular. They help keep recovering addicts connected and sober. Most experts recommend going to an in-person support group. It helps to put a face to each member.

However, those who can’t make it to in-person meetings should consider going to an online meeting. Online meetings work. They can offer the same level of support. The best part is that you can join one of these meetings from anywhere you want, as long as you have an electronic device and internet connection.

There are a number of different recovery meetings to choose from in Issaquah, Washington.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

12 step programs are incredibly effective in helping addicts get sober. One of the first 12 step programs created was Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). They follow twelve specific steps and principles that, essentially, help recovering alcoholics make a personal inventory of their shortcoming, admit their wrongdoings and try to do better.

AA meeting types include daily reflections, step studies, book studies and speaker discussions. The meetings are separated into open meetings and closed meetings. While students, researchers and loved ones are welcome at open meetings, closed meetings are reserved for recovering alcohol abusers only. This helps to create a more intimate and personal environment.

Studies looking at the effectiveness of AA meetings have found that frequent AA attendees had better drinking outcomes to both non-AA attendees and infrequent attendees. Those who went to AA at least once a week were more likely to abstain from alcohol or reduce their consumption.

The good news is that there are plenty of AA meetings in Issaquah, WA. You shouldn't have any problems finding one that fits your timetable and needs.

Another good thing about Issaquah is that there are many gender-specific AA meetings. These meetings may create a more intimate and personal environment. It's easier to discuss gender-specific issues that may have led to the addiction.

For example, many women will turn to drugs and alcohol after a significant trauma. They'll need to learn more about the long-term effects of trauma, and how to deal with it in order to begin healing. Gender-specific meetings may give them more of a courage to open up about their past struggles and experiences.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA)

Those struggling with a drug addiction will benefit from going to a Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting. These meetings are a subdivision of AA meetings. The primary difference between AA and NA meetings is that NA meetings discuss drug-related topics. Members can be addicted to any type of substance. Some have developed a prescription drug addiction after non-adherence to the dosage prescribed by doctors. Other members are addicted to illegal drugs.

NA meetings follow the same twelve steps and principles as AA meetings. They also have the same type of meeting structure. There are daily reflections, speaker discussions, book studies and step studies. Members learn how to reflect on their actions and make better decisions in their lives.

These meetings also give recovering drug abusers an opportunity to talk with other people and share their frustrations. Dealing with an addiction can be hard. Sometimes, all you need is to be able to talk about your struggles.

At this current moment, there are no NA meetings held in Issaquah. The closest meetings are in Seattle and Bellevue. These meetings are less than a 20-minute drive away. We’ve listed a handful of options below. For more meetings, check out the NA site.

Al-Anon

Anyone living with or dealing with an addict will understand just how difficult the situation can be. Those who are close to the addict will have to watch him or her struggle with addiction, relapse and, even, overdose. Loved ones often pour a lot of money, time, heart and soul into helping the addict. More often than not, they'll be let down.

Al-Anon and Alateen Meetings in Issaquah

It's not unusual to feel disappointed, depressed and anxious when living with an addict. The important part is to understand that their addiction is not your fault.

To help you deal with your inner struggles and worries, go to an Al-Anon meeting. These meetings are a type of 12 step program. They follow the same principles and steps. The goal of these recovery meetings is to help loved ones learn how to deal with an addict and how to live their life independently from him or her.

There are a handful of Al-Anon meetings in Issaquah. The times and locations of these meetings are subject to change. All of the meetings available are hosted on the same day. If these times don’t work for you, consider joining an online meeting or going to a meeting in a nearby city.

Meeting location: 745 Front St S

Meeting time: 7:30 PM

You can also consider starting your own meeting if you want. Make sure that you’ll have enough community participation and interest.

Alateen

Alateen meetings are a subdivision of Al-Anon meetings. These meetings are designed specifically for teenagers with parents who are addicts. Living with an addicted parent comes with a lot of complications.

Often times, these teenagers are exposed to situations that they would, otherwise, never be involved in. They may have to grow up quickly. Some teenagers may have witnessed their parents overdose, while others may have to take over household duties and even take care of themselves.

If you're in this situation, just know that you're not alone. There are plenty of resources in the community that can ease your burdens.

It's important to learn how to deal with an addicted parent. It's also important to deal with any inner struggles you have. Alateen meetings will connect you with teenagers in similar situations. These meetings give teenagers an opportunity to vent their feelings and to share their struggles.

Alateen meetings are not led by anyone. All of the members at these meetings are teenagers. At times, some Alateen meetings may be sponsored by an Al-Anon member.

Unfortunately, there are no Alateen meetings in Issaquah, WA at this time. Teenagers who are interested in going to a support group can consider joining one of the Al-Anon meetings in Issaquah. If not, they can consider looking for Alateen meetings in nearby cities.

The closest Alateen meetings to Issaquah are hosted in both Bellevue and Seattle. These meetings are about a 20-minute drive away. Once again, these meeting times and locations are subject to change.

If you don’t feel comfortable at an Al-Anon meeting and can’t make it to another city, you can also consider joining an online meeting.

Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART)

Although 12 step programs are effective, they may not be ideal for everyone. Some people may benefit more from going to a science-based support group instead. Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) recovery meetings are able to offer educational meetings for addicts.

Anyone with an addiction can attend SMART meetings. Members don't necessarily have to be addicted to drugs or alcohol. They can be addicted to gambling, sex and more.

SMART meetings are a 4-point program that teaches members a wide variety of skills. For example, members learn how to cope with urges, build and maintain motivation and also how to deal with negative thoughts and feelings. They learn techniques that revolve around self-empowerment and self-reliance.

Unfortunately, at this time, there are no SMART meetings in Issaquah, WA.

The closest meetings that are within 15 miles of Issaquah are located in Seattle and Bellevue. There are two SMART meetings available. Once again, meeting times and locations are subject to change. It’s not unusual for some meetings to be put on hiatus. Make sure you check back to see what the availabilities are.
