One of the earliest 12-step groups to form after AA, Narcotics Anonymous or NA was founded in 1953. And since then, it’s grown to hold more than 67 thousand weekly meetings in 139 different countries.

Young people are at an especially vulnerable time in their lives. They’re creating new relationships, dealing with overwhelming surges of hormones, and trying to decide who they want to be in their lives.
That’s why it’s so important that teens impacted by another’s alcoholism have their own place to go to get the support they need. That’s where Alateen comes in.
A subgroup of Al-Anon, Alateen is a 12-step support group specifically for young people. Here they can feel more comfortable sharing their experiences openly. And here they can also find out more about strategies they can use to stay safe and supported in their younger years.

Similar to Al-Anon, Nar-Anon is for friends and family members of addicts. Though this group is not specifically focused on the disease of alcoholism.
Rather, it makes no stipulations about what kinds of addictions are addressed. It could be addiction to heroin, cocaine, meth, marijuana, and – yes – even alcohol.

Many people do not get the support they need when dealing with a family member’s alcoholism. And unfortunately, that can lead to a host of problems later on in life for these individuals.
Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA) is aimed at helping these people in particular go on to live happy and healthy lives, despite their parent’s alcoholism in the past.

While 12-step groups are some of the best sources for addiction support, there are in fact alternatives. One of the most popular and most effective of these alternatives is SMART Recovery.

Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to attend the in-person meetings above. Some may not have the time or means to travel. And others simply may not want to interact with other people face-to-face.
Thanks to the internet, though, recovering addicts still have options available for getting the support they so desperately need.
The online support groups below give individuals the flexibility and the timely access they need to make recovery the priority it needs to be.
While overdose help and finding adequate support are both vital to a safe and successful recovery, they usually aren’t enough to ensure long-term sobriety. And in fact, the overwhelming majority of addicts will simply need professional treatment in order to kick their addiction for good.
A professional program connects recovering addicts with expert knowledge and guidance that has been refined to promote the absolute best chances at recovery. They also have the medical knowledge and equipment needed to keep patients safe along the way.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any addiction treatment programs or sober living homes located within Covington itself. There are plenty of options in the surrounding areas though.
However, proximity isn’t always the only thing to consider when choosing an addiction facility.

However, the tradeoffs here are higher costs, less freedom, and an inability to tend to some daily obligations (job, school, family).
These programs typically last around one month.
Outpatient – An outpatient program is much more flexible than inpatient. Recovering addicts in this program receive treatment during evening sessions rather than throughout the day. As a result, patients can still live out their daily lives like normal and can still fulfill many of their usual obligations. However, this can also contribute to a higher rate of relapse since patients are free to do as they wish throughout the day.
These programs are usually about 3 months long.
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) – An IOP tries to balance the level of care and flexibility. Patients only attend treatment sessions in the evening (like outpatient). But these sessions usually last longer and occur more frequently throughout the week. It's a step up from outpatient but not quite as involved as an inpatient program.
This type of rehab usually lasts around 3 months long as well.
