After identifying the signs of an overdose, the most important thing to do is to get emergency medical help immediately. The sooner the overdosing individual receives help, the better their chances will be for making a full recovery and avoiding permanent damage.
This means calling 9-1-1. Do not try to take the person to a hospital before contacting emergency services. Often they’ll be able to dispatch an ambulance while giving medical advice that may end up saving the person’s life.
Overdose is also becoming increasingly common. True, much of this trend is due to the continually raging opioid epidemic. But even still, other drugs like cocaine and alcohol are also playing a part. Here are a few stats to put the problem into perspective.
One of the best resources for a struggling drug user or alcoholic is tapping into the healing power of a 12-step meeting. More commonly known as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, or family groups like Al-Anon and Alateen, these meetings are free, widely available, and of course 100% confidential.
They can also offer a much-needed social connection to others as well as a dedicated support network. And both of these can be integral parts of keeping an addict sober.
And while Blackfoot may not be the biggest town in Idaho, there are plenty of 12-step meetings happening in and around this area.

Online support groups are available as a standalone service, or as an add-on service to traditional support groups. One of the biggest benefits of using these types of groups is that addicts don’t need to travel to a physical meeting place. Instead, all they have to do is log on and start chatting.
